Creation of a private gym in Gordes

Sur une propriété privée à Gordes, dans le Vaucluse, cette salle de sport de 30 m² vient s'ajouter en annexe à un bâtiment existant. Construite en 5 mois, cette annexe a été pensée pour s'intégrer harmonieusement dans le paysage et épouser la pente naturelle du terrain.
Un bâtiment semi-enterré, pensé pour disparaître dans le paysage
Plutôt que de poser l'annexe sur le terrain, le projet la creuse dans la pente. Dans la mesure où elle est semi-enterrée et adossée au relief, la salle de sport disparaît en grande partie sous une toiture végétalisée qui prolonge la prairie existante.
Vue depuis l'amont, le bâtiment se confond avec son environnement. La végétation de la couverture continue le tapis de graminées et de lavandes, limitant l'impact visuel du bâtiment tout en le protégeant des écarts de température.
Des restanques en pierre sèche, héritage du site
Autour de la salle de sport, le terrain est organisé en restanques, ces terrasses en pierre sèche typiques des paysages provençaux. Montés sans mortier selon la technique traditionnelle, ces murs de soutènement retiennent la terre et assurent un drainage naturel.
Une baie vitrée pour ouvrir la salle sur le paysage provençal
Orientée vers la vallée, une large baie vitrée toute hauteur vient rompre cet ancrage minéral. Elle ouvre la salle sur les collines, les oliviers, les cyprès et les champs de lavande, et fait entrer la lumière naturelle jusqu'au cœur de l'espace semi-enterré.
Ce contraste entre la pierre brute et la finesse de la menuiserie en acier résume l'esprit du projet : une architecture contemporaine qui s'appuie sur des gestes constructifs anciens.
On a private property in Gordes, in the Vaucluse, this 30 m² gym was added as an annex to an existing building. Built in 5 months, this annex was designed to blend harmoniously into the landscape and follow the natural slope of the land.
A semi-buried building, designed to disappear into the landscape
Rather than placing the annex on the land, the project digs it into the slope. Being semi-buried and set against the hillside, the gym largely disappears beneath a green roof that extends the existing meadow.
Seen from above, the building blends into its surroundings. The vegetation on the roof continues the carpet of grasses and lavender, limiting the building's visual impact while protecting it from temperature fluctuations.
Dry-stone terraces, a legacy of the site
Around the gym, the land is organized into restanques, the dry-stone terraces typical of Provençal landscapes. Built without mortar using traditional techniques, these retaining walls hold back the earth and ensure natural drainage.

Facing the valley, a large full-height glass wall breaks up this mineral anchoring. It opens the gym onto the hills, olive trees, cypresses and lavender fields, bringing natural light into the heart of the semi-buried space.
This contrast between raw stone and the fine steel joinery sums up the spirit of the project: a contemporary architecture built on traditional construction gestures.
