Interior renovation of a Provencal villa

Les constats : un manque de luminosité et une circulation difficile.
Lors d’une visite-conseil, l’architecte d’intérieur a pu mettre en évidence les défauts inhérents de cette maison qui était sombre et peu pratique malgré une superficie significative (280 m² sur 2 niveaux).
Le RDC de la maison souffrait clairement d’un manque de lumière malgré quelques ouvertures. On y trouvait notamment une grande cuisine située dans la partie la plus ancienne de la maison. Derrière la cheminée du salon, on trouvait un espace chambre - salon. À côté du séjour, à proximité de l’escalier qui dessert les étages, on on avait accès à un coin bureau complètement fermé. On trouvait également un coin douche sous l’escalier !
À l’étage, on trouvait 3 chambres, une petite salle de bain, des WC indépendants ainsi qu’une pièce débarras d’une hauteur sous plafond de 160 cm. Si la surface au sol était tout à fait adaptée pour une famille, la circulation entre les espaces était difficile, le découpage des volumes très anguleux et la charpente omniprésente.
Le projet : Ouvrir les espaces et apporter de la lumière
Ayant pris en compte les besoins et attentes des propriétaires, l’architecte d’intérieur à proposer un projet de rénovation intérieure globale qui consiste à décloisonner les espaces et optimiser la lumière naturelle.
Au niveau du RDC :
- L’espace séjour a été ouvert de façon à conserver un espace cosy. Un canapé lit permettant un couchage d’appoint a été placé derrière la cheminée.
- La cheminée a été modifiée pour accueillir un insert 3 faces qui rayonne sur l’ensemble de l’espace de vie.
- Un dégagement sous l’escalier a été créé sous de façon à créer un véritable espace bureau ouvert sur le séjour.
- Une rambarde en bois massif crée un lien entre le RDC et l’étage.
- Une grande porte-fenêtre vitrée a été posée au niveau de la cuisine pour apporter un maximum de lumière naturelle.
- Les WC ont été déplacés à côté du bureau
- Un grand rangement sur mesure a été conçu près de l’escalier.
À l’étage :
- L’architecte d’intérieur a favorisé la création de 2 belles chambres plutôt que de conserver 3 petites chambres sombres. Une 3e chambre n’était plus indispensable dans la mesure où un couchage d’appoint agréable a été créé en RDC.
- On trouve une chambre avec une salle de douche semi-ouverte particulièrement élégante.
- Le suite parentale offre une grande chambre accompagnée d’un dressing et d’une salle de bain avec douche et baignoire.
- Le palier a été modifié avec la création d’une fenêtre supplémentaire au niveau de la trémie de l’escalier.
The Assessment: Lack of Light and Difficult Circulation
During an initial consultation, the interior designer identified the inherent shortcomings of this house, which was dark and impractical despite its considerable floor area (280 m² over 2 levels).
The ground floor clearly suffered from a lack of light despite a few openings. It featured a large kitchen in the oldest part of the house, a combined bedroom-living area behind the fireplace, and a completely enclosed office corner beside the staircase. There was even a shower cubicle tucked under the stairs!
Upstairs, there were 3 bedrooms, a small bathroom, a separate WC, and a storage room with only 160 cm of ceiling height. While the floor area was perfectly suited to a family, circulation between spaces was difficult, the layout very angular, and the roof structure omnipresent.
The Project: Opening Up Spaces and Bringing in Light
Taking the owners' needs and expectations into account, the interior designer proposed a comprehensive interior renovation consisting of removing partitions and optimizing natural light.
On the Ground Floor:
- The living area was opened up while preserving a cosy feel. A sofa bed was placed behind the fireplace to provide extra sleeping space.
- The fireplace was modified to accommodate a three-sided insert radiating warmth across the entire living space.
- A clear area under the staircase was created to form a genuine office space open to the living room.
- A solid wood banister creates a visual link between the ground floor and the upper level.
- A large glazed French door was installed in the kitchen to maximize natural light.
- The WC was relocated next to the office.
- A large bespoke storage unit was designed near the staircase.
On the Upper Floor:
- The interior designer favored creating 2 beautiful bedrooms rather than keeping 3 small, dark ones. A third bedroom was no longer essential given the comfortable extra sleeping space created on the ground floor.
- One bedroom features a particularly elegant semi-open shower room.
- The master suite offers a spacious bedroom with a dressing room and a bathroom with both a shower and a bathtub.
- The landing was redesigned with an additional window at the stairwell opening.
